Lakebase is a fully managed serverless, scalable, and resilient Postgres database that offers low-latency reads and writes to unlock operational and transactional use cases for Databricks customers. It is completely integrated with the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform meaning it has access to the same tables that power your analytical and AI workloads. This integration provides several benefits such as:
- Easy Data Synchronization: Ability to easily sync data from the Lakehouse (analytical layer) to Lakebase on a snapshot, triggered / scheduled, or continuous basis, without the need for building and maintaining complex external jobs
- Integrated security and governance: Registering Lakebase with Unity Catalog brings operations; data into your centralized governance framework, covering audit trails and permissions at the catalog level. However, governance can still be maintained via Postgres protocol
