Detailed Agenda
No more clusters: Advantages and challenges faced migrating workloads to serverless compute
Speaker: Christopher Pfister (Data Engineer at Handelsblatt Media Group)
Description: The recently introduced serverless compute offers numerous advantages like virtually instant startup times and significantly less tuning in configuration. Still, a few questions remain:
How well does serverless compute perform against highly tweaked traditional compute clusters in a price to performance comparison?
What challenges are to be considered adapting workloads to serverless?
In this session we will share our experiences migrating the entirety of our workloads to serverless, our considerations and testing before making the switch and the challenges we faced during the migration like enabling serverless compute to access resources in our private networks in Azure and adapting our code to be compliant with ANSI SQL.
Data and Freedom: Providing Teams with the Data They Need and the Tools They Love
Speakers: Florian Schulz and Carsten Düllmann, Cloud Engineers at BarmeniaGothaer
Description: With the broad capabilities of the Databricks platform, it's an ongoing challenge in an enterprise environment to deliver the right data and tools to teams—empowering innovation while ensuring security and compliance. From simple ad-hoc queries to data pipelines to full-scale GenAI solutions, the needs and responsibilities of customer and platform teams must be carefully balanced.
Join the Data Analytics Platform team on their journey from a centralized, hard-to-maintain single workspace model to a flexible, self-service platform approach—leveraging Databricks Unity Catalog and GitOps principles. This session will cover organizational topics such as team responsibilities, the data shopping process, as well as automation practices using Terraform, Databricks Asset Bundles, GitLab/GitHub, and more.
